Get Your Worship On!
Five years ago, during a difficult time for the ministry of Choice, God brought forth a Divine Appointment. Because of the exodus of a key family in our church, we were left without a sustainable worship ministry. I prayed seeking the Lord’s direction but was not certain of our next steps. But God worked through some relationships, a wedding and a note handed to me.
One of our members had an acquaintance who knew someone whose Dad was in town for his daughter’s wedding (sounds CRAZY, right?). This member, Suzi, handed me a note and shared that a Worship Pastor, named Steve Evans, may be an answer to our prayer. I thought about waiting, then I thought about not calling and then I walked to my office and made a phone call to Pastor Steve. And the rest, as they say, is history. Totally God!
There is no doubt that God was at work. My relationship with the Evans family brought tremendous healing. What could have been such a negative experience, became an incredible blessing. Disaster was averted and we have enjoyed five years of Getting Our Worship On! The Choice Family has greatly benefited from the experience, skill, training and love that Pastor Steve continues to provide. The Exaltation Team is strong and unified. Garrett is excited to build upon the foundation that has been established! Pastor Steve and Patty will continue to serve the Lord and both are committed to using their abilities to bring glory to Christ. Their retirement will allow them to slow down a little, visit family more frequently and build some memories as they check off some things on their bucket list.
Truly, there is no way that I can thank Pastor Steve and Patty enough. Their compassion and friendship have blessed me and Paula so much. For them, I am grateful and I am sure you are too. Let me share a way that we can return a blessing and show them honor.
Recently a little birdy told me that Pastor Steve and Patty would love to go on a cruise. Over the next month I am asking you to prayerfully give to this exciting opportunity. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 so it will allow them to choose a vacation of their dreams. Also, there are 3 events for you to attend to show your love and support. The first is a night of worship on Wednesday, July 28th. Pastor Steve has taught us to, “Love God, Love People and Help Others Do the Same”. All Small Groups are asked to attend in place of your regular Bible study. And secondly, the Files are opening their home on Saturday, July 31st for food, fellowship and the opportunity for you to share your gratitude. And last of all on Sunday, August 1st, Pastor Steve will be preaching at both the 9 am and 10:30 am services.
When Pastor Steve announced his retirement, he mentioned that God has given him a Shepherd’s heart and that he will always be a Pastor. I think we should honor him with a new title, “Worship Pastor Emeritus.” That is a fitting way for us to honor this man of God.
