The End Of The World?

Whether you are a doomsday prepper, a skeptic, or somewhere in the middle, I am sure you have heard the masses talking about the rise of A.I (Artificial Intelligence) and the impending end of the world as we know it…

As Christians, how are we to evaluate, process and make sense of the times in which we live?  Should we start stocking up on beans and bread, rid ourselves of all technology and become separatists?  Or should we source out our daily activities and responsibilities to A.I and embrace the technology to the fullest extent?  Maybe you would agree with me that most things in life fall on a spectrum.  How you evaluate your health, the way you parent, how you communicate and how we make decisions in life all fall on a wide spectrum.  Truth is usually somewhere in the middle.  If we are not careful, we will wind up being as the apostle Paul said “tossed to and fro” by every wind of doctrine.  We will be easily influenced and swayed in our decision making by the latest and greatest fad or trend.  The way I see it, A.I is no different…

Solomon wrote most of the wisdom literature in the Old Testament and in the book of Ecclesiastes, he stated that there is “nothing new under the sun”.  What exactly does that mean?  Just what it says, there is nothing that has not already happened or been said that will ever be constituted as genuinely “new”.  Was the Internet “new”?  Was the invention of the cell phone or the car “new”?  No.  Each “new” advancement was simply an innovation of something that had previously existed.  A.I. is “new” to us because we as a general population have never been exposed to something of its nature, however, 100 years ago the same could be said for the TV…that group of people had never been exposed to TV, so it was “new” to them.  Would we say TV is “new” to us today?  Absolutely not!

So what should your response be to A.I as a follower of Jesus Christ?  Two thoughts – know that all things were created by Him, through HIm and for Him.  He ultimately created it and He will ultimately use it for the advancement of His kingdom.  Secondly, remember, A.I is a redeemable and usable technology that we should be grateful the Lord has allowed us to experience on this side of eternity.  How can you begin to learn about, and use this technology to enhance your study of God’s word?  Notice I said enhance, not replace 🙂

Ultimately, what good does it do us as Christians to ponder the end of the world and continually predict if this new technological advancement is the straw that is going to break the camel’s back?     After all, aren’t we all still waiting on Y2K to spell the end of humanity?
