Pastor Tim recently spoke about God giving us favor, joy, and abilities. When I think of the free gift that God gives us through the mercy demonstrated to us by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, I am overwhelmed. This brings me great joy, and God desires us to fulfill His command to make disciples. I know I can’t do this without Him working in and through me to “Impact lives for His glory”.
While reading my devotion today, I was reminded that my words are powerful, and they can bring life, or they can bring death. Jesus is our best example, and so the question came, “How did Jesus use His words?” At times, He was direct, life-giving, honest, and encouraging. Our words and how we use them are the very things that build our witness and can truly make a difference in the lives of others.
Ephesians 4:29 says, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
Ephesians 4:32 says, “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
Toby Mac, a well-known Christian Music Artist put it this way in his song, “Speak Life”
“So speak life, speak life. To the deadest darkest night. Speak life, speak life. When the sun won’t shine, and you don’t know why. Look into the eyes of the broken-hearted; watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope, you speak love, you speak… you speak life, you speak life.”
So, as we go out into this world, let us allow the grace of God to flow through us and use our words to be powerful, strong, and encouraging to people around us. Speak Life!
