Resting In God’s Presence

Rest can look like many different things; we can rest physically, getting a full night’s rest, taking breaks from physical exertion, or unplugging from social media and the amount of screen time we spend on our phones on a daily basis. Even though recharging from our responsibilities and commitments is also important, I want to focus and direct our attention to resting in God’s presence.

Hebrews 4:9-11 says, “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience” (NKJV).

How do we enter God’s rest? In order to enter His rest, we need to spend time in His
presence, reading His Word and praying to Him. We see also that Mark 1:35 mentions that Jesus rested in the presence of His Father; He would get up early to spend time in the solitary place with no distractions. When He was found by Simon and his companions, He knew that it was time to do the work that His Father had sent Him to do, preaching to the people. Likewise, we need to be spiritually filled by going to that solitary place with the Lord. Meditate on His Word day and night, reflect on how the Lord has provided for you even in the difficult times, and give Him thanks for all He has done. Once we have recharged and rested in His presence, we will be able to do the work the Lord has called us to do and will be more effective.
