Dinner and Jesus

Here at Choice, we value family. You could even say that family is a part of the heartbeat of our church! We know that family is one of God’s most precious and intentional designs that He uses as a way to point us back to Him and experience a deeper way to worship and admire Him. While family is certainly not limited to the people in your house, today, this is the kind of family we are going to be referring to in our discussion about family devotions.

What Are Family Devotionals and Why Have Them?

Family devotionals are simply moments that families spend together in God’s word. It is important for parents to set the example of reading the Bible everyday and then living it out. When children see their mom, dad, or both studying the Bible and applying it to their own life, it strengthens their faith and influences them to want to have that same kind of experience. Families should set aside a special time each day to pause and spend time reading Scripture, discussing it, and then praying about what they read and how to obey and apply it. God’s word is timeless, active, and powerful!  We must be intentional about teaching our children how to read the Bible, talk with God, and have it affect them. What an incredible way to strengthen your family and equip them to become more passionate for His Kingdom’s work!

How to implement Family Devotionals

There are a ton of resources out there from books to articles and websites that offer ways to implement family devotions or already have some outlined for you. At Choice, we are providing two kinds of tools for families during this time. The first one is our “May Family Devotionals.” After the end of each Sunday service, there will be a couple of questions or challenges about that morning’s message/topic to work through as a family. We encourage families to get involved and get creative. Tag us in videos or pictures and let us know how it is going!

The second tool we are offering is “Dinner & Jesus” dinner conversation cards. These cards, with Scripture references, questions, and discussion points, will be sent out over the course of the next couple of months. We want families to make use of the cards by opening up the Bible and then discussing it together. Each card has Scripture to read, 3 questions (with answers on the back), and a prayer you can say as a family. These cards can be used flexibly so I encourage you to pick whichever nights work best for your family, come up with more questions & answers, and fill in the remaining four days with your own family devotionals by choosing new Bible stories or looking into other resources! In this crazy time we want to make sure we are staying connected & helping families have important conversations about the Bible!

Much love,

Raven,
