A Time For Giving

1 Timothy 6:17-18

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.  Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,

What do I give to the person that has everything?  Maybe that is a question that you have asked yourself this Christmas.  For most of my life, I’ve asked that about my Dad.  He doesn’t need anything, and if he did he would go buy it, not wait for Christmas.

Probably most of us don’t really NEED anything.  We may WANT some things and we could USE some other things.  But we are a very blessed people.  We live in a country of incredible wealth.  Some of you never dreamed of making the amount of money you do.  Or you live in a house much larger than you did as a child.  I know that not everyone relates but most of us are blessed beyond measure.

So I have an idea.  Let’s reframe the above question.  Instead of giving to those who live with abundance, maybe I could give to those who live in poverty, spiritually and physically.  There are millions of people that do not have access to fresh water.  There are multitudes that are unsure of where they will get their next meal.  There are so many that have never heard that Jesus loves them.

I am certainly not saying don’t provide gifts to your loved ones.  The blessing of giving to our family and friends provides joy to those who give as well as those who receive.  But I do want to encourage you to give to those who have very little.

Our Christmas Offering this year will meet physical needs as we feed children all year long.  We will provide security needs for those who are exploited by human trafficking.  And we will provide spiritual needs as we see churches started around the world.

WHO CAN I GIVE TO THAT HAS VERY LITTLE?
